Mold Making

With Berkeley Repertory Theatre

During some downtime, one of my mentors showed me and some others silicone mold-making processes. I built a custom-fit box for the plaster cherub I chose to mold, in an attempt to waste less material. I filled my container with water and then measured it, to determine how much silicone I would need to mix (this also helped to make sure the box wouldn’t leak). We used Smooth-on Mold Star, which I measured and mixed thoroughly. After pouring my mold, I picked up and dropped it onto the table repeatedly to release as many bubbles as possible. Once my mold was complete, I carefully pried the original out of the silicone, and filled the mold with (a lot) of hot glue. It took an entire day for the hot glue to dry, but by the end, I had a copy of my cherub!
