Fireplace - Uncle Vanya

With Berkeley Repertory Theatre

Designed By: Robert Brill

The fireplace in Uncle Vanya moved in partway through the show, replacing the sink unit. It had multiple moving parts because of this. I put just about all of the molding on the top of the mantel. I layered a lot of pieces of MDF in order to build up the shape of the mantel. I learned a lot about how to carefully cut and place molding. Because so much of the molding was so thin and delicate, I needed to cut a lot of them by hand with a pull saw and a miter box that I made.
